Radiojazzgruppen med Fabia Mantwill
Radiojazzgruppen returns with Nils Landgren and guest Fabia Mantwill for an entirely innovative concert.
Berlin-based composer, arranger, saxophonist, and vocalist Fabia Mantwill unites several distinct musical worlds: from classical music to jazz and folk, and expands the idea of the traditional orchestra format with her 24-piece signature chamber orchestra. On her ”enchanting, epic debut album” (New York Music Daily) titled EM.PERIENCE, Mantwill works with a variety of voices, sounds, harmonies, and instruments that give the album its brilliant holistic character. It features world-renowned soloists such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ben Wendel, and Nils Landgren.
Nils Landgren is the artistic director of Jazzradion on P2 Swedish Radio. As a trombonist, he embodies the words versatility, curiosity, and enthusiasm. He has played with artists such as Björn Skifs, Thad Jones, and ABBA before starting his solo career and, since its founding in 1992, as the frontman of the acclaimed ensemble Nils Landgren Funk Unit. He is a prolific studio artist who has participated in well over 50 records since his first solo album in 1984.
In the 1960s, Swedish Radio aimed to help make jazz a more serious art form – the old Radiobandet was reshaped and became Radiojazzgruppen. For several decades, Radiojazzgruppen was the hub around which Swedish jazz revolved, with names such as Arne Domnerus, Bengt Hallberg, Jan Allan, Georg Riedel, and Lennart Åberg associated with the ensemble. Now they are back in new configurations with both old and new music.
