Norwegian trumpeter, composer and jazztronica pioneer Nils Petter Molvær's music is a webof atmospheric, beat-filled jazz. On stage - Swedish pedal steel genius Johan Lindström
Norwegian trumpeter, composer and jazztronica pioneer Nils Petter Molvær brings his group with Swedish pedal-steel genius Johan Lindström for a long-awaited concert at Kulturhuset during the Stockholm jazz festival.
Nils Petter Molvær is one of the brightest artists in the electro-acoustic mix of improvised and composed jazz that has become a genre of its own.
Molvær’s debut album Khmer came out in 1997 and sold over 250,000 copies and established him as one of the leading voices in the new European jazz. Since the beginning of the 1980s, he had played with the now-jazz group Masqualero together with, among others, the drummer Jon Christensen.
The multi-instrumentalist and composer Johan Lindström has been one of Sweden’s most sought-after musicians and producers for many years. Both international and domestic artists are queuing up to work with the 52-year-old Stockholmer. Lindström gathers some of Sweden’s jazz elite in his own septet and is one of four in the critically and audience-acclaimed Tonbruket.
The meeting between Molvær and Lindström in the Nils Petter Molvær Group is a dream of atmospheric, beat-filled jazz that originates from the Scandinavian soundscape.
In 2021 came the record Stichtes Stitches, Molvær’s fifteenth under his own name, and alongside Molvær and Lindström there is Jo Berger Myhre on bass and electronics, drummer Erland Dahlen and Sven Persson and Tord Knudsen who are responsible for sound and lighting design respectively.
Stockholm Jazz Festival now has the great honor of presenting the Nils Petter Molvær Group – a Swedish-Norwegian union at its best.
