Gilbert Holmström Kvintett
Legendary saxophonist Gilbert Holmström celebrates the new album Peak (Moserobie) with his new quintet.
We proudly present a genuine Swedish jazz legend! Gilbert Holmström, is a pioneering saxophonist and composer with a completely unique aura. A few years ago he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement from the Swedish Jazz Federation for his long and creative work. He has had a long career that started with the cult debut ”Utan Misstankar” from 1965. At 87, he is still a powerful and vital voice in Swedish jazz, constantly in search of new expressions.
Generations of younger musicians have over the years expressed their admiration for Gilbert, not least for his work with the legendary band Mount Everest. Versatile pianist Mathias Landæus has been playing with Gilbert since 2012 in various constellations. In recent years, Gilbert has been a recurring guest with Mattias’ tight trio.
When the Norwegian trumpet player, Erik Kimestad, joined, the group felt complete and Gilbert had finally found the trumpeter he had long sought to play his music. The quintet is on tour with their new album ”PEAK” released on Moserobie Records, founded by saxophonist Jonas Kullhammar, another of Gilbert’s devoted admirers.
