Bill Frisell FOUR
One of modern jazz guitar's greatest serves us intricate poetic, meditative playing that moves across Americana, bluegrass, country and jazz.
Bill Frisell is one of the greats of modern jazz guitar and one of those who influenced the modern way of playing jazz guitar.
Frisell’s intricately poetic, meditative playing moves across Americana, bluegrass, country and jazz. Like his Berklee classmate Pat Metheny, he began playing wind instruments. Born in Baltimore, Bill Frisell grew up in Denver, Colorado. He discovered jazz with Wes Montgomery.
Frisell has played on hundreds of records in most genres and has made about ninety under his own name. Collaborations with everyone from Lucinda Williams, Bonnie Raitt and Jerry Douglas on the Americana edge to Paul Simon to Jan Garbarek and Joe Lovano.
In the summer of 2022, Bill Frisell was here together with Charles Lloyd and offered a completely magical evening out on Skeppsholmen during the summer festival Fasching in Bloom.
”Lloyd and Frisell don’t strike any poses, but go straight for the American storytelling tradition.” Wrote DN’s reviewer.
Frisell brings the top quartet from his latest album Four, his third on Blue Note, to Maximteatern. With pianist Gerald Clayton and drummer Jonathan Blake along with piper Greg Tardy.
