Matilda (b. 1996) is a singer/songwriter who blends jazz and pop into a dreamy sound with strong storytelling and emotional depth.
Matilda, born in 1996 in Stockholm, is a singer, improviser and songwriter who has established herself on the Swedish music scene in recent years.
Her artistry is characterized by a distinctive sound that combines narrative lyrics, complex sounds and playful melodies. With inspiration from a variety of influences, everything from Joni Mitchell and Björk to Cecile McLorin Salvant and Roy Hargrove.
The EP Written during transport was released in the fall of 2024 on FLAK Records and is Matilda’s most personal album to date. The lyrics take the listener on a journey through different stories, about growing up, facing resistance, love or anger. Her compositions navigate between contrasts such as vulnerability and restoration or friction and flow. By letting jazz and alternative pop meet and interact, Matilda creates an evocative and dreamy sound world.
”There are songs that transport you from the first seconds, and Roads and Railways by Matilda Schyborger is one of them… The minimalist arrangements let every note, every breath, resonate with disarming clarity. This is not just a song, it is a sound experience that makes you think about your own path.”
