Jacopo Ferrazza – Wood Tales

Italian double bass player Jacopo Ferrazza plays original compositions as well as jazz standards in his experimental and personal interpretation.

The album ”Wood Tales”, created during the second lockdown, is a project that reveals its quid in the search for sonic independence and a rhythmic, harmonic and melodic identity, as well as a timbre uniquely supported by the use of voice and bow. It is an intimate and confidential dialogue, without filters or artifice, where forethought gives way to intuition, to the instinct to search for and discover every single note, exploiting all the veins of the instrument.

Ferrazza mixes original compositions with songs and jazz standards ranging from Fabio Zeppetella (Choro Pra Gianlu) to Enrico Pieranunzi (Les Amants), from the Beatles’ Blackbird to the closing A New World. The influences of Charlie Haden, Ray Brown and Larry Grenadier are evident throughout, as are references to John Patitucci and Ares Tavolazzi. Wood Tales seems to be answering a call, a need for authenticity, where the awareness of imperfection is also a value of uniqueness. The instrument is completely exposed, revealing new ranges of colours and nuances that are no longer hidden. And it is in this new personal and artistic experience that Jacopo Ferrazza’s musical journey marks a new milestone from which there is no turning back.

The Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm has hosted many young Italian jazz talents in recent years, and the Stockholm Jazz Festival will be no exception! The evening offers a double concert with Nerovivo and Jacopo Ferrazza. The artists are supported by Nuova Generazione Jazz, a project of the I-Jazz association, which aims to promote the new talents of the Italian jazz scene on a national and international level.
