Henning Ullén 4

The group offers intense modern jazz that constantly explores and tries to find new paths through Henning's ingenious compositions.

Henning Ullén is an award-winning active pianist and composer who mainly works within jazz and improvised music. He has studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Berklee College of Music, and the Conservatoire in Paris (CNSDMP). Henning Ullén was one of Sweden’s most promising and praised young jazz trumpet players when he had to end his trumpet career in 2019 due to a rare illness that caused dizziness and headaches when playing the trumpet. He then switched to piano in a very short time and released his first album ”Debut” in 2021. Today, he is releasing his second album ”PLAY!”

”Henning Ullén clearly shows his greatness both as a musician and composer” – Bo Bjelvehammar, Magasin Opulens

”The trio playing is so engaging that one can claim that Ullén’s trio is one of the more interesting ensembles in today’s jazz Sweden.” – Leif Wigh, Tidningen JAZZ

”Switching from trumpet to piano in just two years shows great musicality. Henning’s piano playing is organic, the breathing and phrasing in his playing make it actually audible that he originally was a wind musician. His music has drive, direction, and instills hope. His touch reminds of a classically trained musician, soft but distinct and personal. It brings my thoughts to Lars Janson or Esbjörn Svensson.” – Märet Öman, P1 Kultur

”Ullén has a fine care for melody lines and plays openly explorative in a way that in some aspects reminds of a young Esbjörn Svensson.” – Magnus Östnäs, Lira
