Bill Öhrström

Blues with a living Swedish Blues icon!

Bill Öhrström is part of Swedish music history.
For more than 60 years, he has been heard on stage and been a part of the modern musical development. Öhrström has been a photo model, an organizer, a producer and a musician. He has met all the great blues artists such as; John Mayall, Fleetwood Mac, Otis Rush, Taj Mahal and John Lee Hooker.

It was through Skiffle bands in the 50’s that Bill and his brother Guy found their way into the blues. Bill started out on drums. This was long before the blues boom of the 60s and the brothers were quite alone with their interest in that music. Bill studied for a year in the United States and (as one of the few white young men) listened to gospel in church. He got to know Mahalia Jackson as a 15-year-old. A few years later, he turned down an offer to become the singer in the newly started The Who (!).

In the early 60s, he met 17-year-old Slim Notini, a future blues and gospel icon. Together they played at clubs and school dances. Bill then became a record producer at Polydor and produced legendary Swedish bands such as Lollipops and Hansson & Karlsson. Shortly after, he opened for the Rolling Stones at the band’s first concert in Sweden, and also got to know Jimi Hendrix.
Over the years, he has played with several well known Swedish bands/artists such as; Fläsket Brinner, Mikael Ramel, Lisa Ekdahl, Jukka Tolonen, as well with his own Bill’s Boogie Band.

This will be a hot evening of first-class Blues!
