Adam Forkelid 1st Movement

Quartet jazz of the highest order – featuring brand new music from an upcoming release, along with a live recording!

Following the acclaimed debut album 1st Movement (2021) and its follow-up Turning Point (2024), pianist and composer Adam Forkelid returns with his dynamic band – this time with brand-new material.

In this special performance at the Stockholm Jazz Festival, the quartet presents newly composed music from an upcoming EP. The concert will be recorded live on site, making the evening a unique opportunity to witness creative expression in real time.

The music is intense, lyrical, and rhythmically driven – a meeting point between Nordic jazz, fusion, and a strong improvisational nerve. This is a band defined by equal parts precision and freedom, where each member contributes to a vivid and ever-evolving collective sound.

For over two decades, Adam Forkelid has been a prominent force in Swedish jazz, known for his expressive piano playing in everything from lyrical solo concerts to electrified ensemble settings. 1st Movement is his most personal project to date – and now the next chapter is about to begin.

“Adam Forkelid’s jazz has no boundaries and does not see or will see a date… what sets him apart is his way of writing music, of thinking about it, which makes him unique. We receive a lot of very good albums from pianists and composers; as far as Europe is concerned, Adam Forkelid is well above his peers, offering us here an album as useful for our intellect as it is ‘indispensable.’”
– Thierry De Clemensat, Paris-Move.com (FR/US)

“What melodies and what playing! Listen to this enchanting album!”
– La Gazette Bleue (FR)

“Captivates with collective improvisations and inspired solos on guitar and piano that deeply engage the listener.”
– Jazz’n’More Magazine (CH)

“With a touch of good old fashioned electricity, they even manage to add an entirely new dimension.”
– Johannes Cornell, Dagens Nyheter (SE)
