Kiralina Trio

Superb singer Kiralina Salandy offers an exuberant cavalcade of jazz, gospel and blues. With her is the virtuoso Andreas Hellkvist on the hammond organ and seasoned Jesper Kviberg behind the drums. Together they create a unique, playful and swinging accompaniment to Kiralina. With her charismatic way of leading the ensemble, they get full leeway. It is sometimes fragile and beautiful, sometimes completely boiling.

A concert with the Kiralina Trio is usually a joyous celebration with a lot of heart, and it is not uncommon for the audience to be moved to tears when the trio performs. The Hammond organ and drums provide a beautiful and powerful setting, partly to the music and sound, but also to the visual impression. It becomes passionate, empathetic and genuine. An evening you remember!

Kiralina Salandy is a Grammy-awarded vocalist from Canada, but has been living in Stockholm for a number of years. Besides being an amazing singer with her musical roots in gospel, she is an extraordinary stage personality. Kiralina is always present in the moment and has an irresistible way of inviting and including both her audience and fellow musicians. She is a frequently engaged soloist, both in gospel, jazz and other contexts and has participated in productions with everything from Jerry Williams to Nobel celebrations. She has also sung for the Swedish royal family, in musicals, had gospel concerts in churches and performed at jazz festivals.

Andreas Hellkvist is probably our most versatile Hammond organist. This year he celebrates 30 years with the instrument and he is one of the few who almost always carries a large organ with a Leslie cabinet (at least one, but sometimes more). Over the years, he has developed his own style that arouses astonishment and admiration, both in Sweden and internationally. Musically, he ranges from everything between jazz and blues, to pop, rock and art music. Regardless, there is a groove and an infectious joy of playing that cannot be missed.

For most people in jazz Sweden, Jesper Kviberg needs no further introduction, as he has been seen in countless contexts around the country’s jazz scenes. He has worked with Stacey Kent, Monica Borrfors, Bernt Rosengren Octet, Stockholm Jazz Trio and many more, as well as in his own projects. What you can be sure of is that when he sits behind the drums, things swing.
