Christina von Bülow med Gustafson-Boman-Stark trio
Renowned Danish saxofonist Christina von Bülow performs select pieces from Swedish jazz icon Bernt Rosengrens musical treasure trove with world class trio.
The daughter of jazz guitarist Fritz von Bülow, she studied at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, graduating in 1990. Von Bülow took private lessons from Stan Getz in 1990 and has also studied and performed with Lee Konitz. She had led her own groups since the 1980s. Von Bülow has also performed with prominent jazz musicians such as Rune Gustafsson, Georg Riedel, Bernt Rosengren, Jan Allan and Horace Parlan.
She has received the JASA (Association of Danish jazz critics) Award in 1994, the Ben Webster Prize in 2002, the Palæ Award in 2009 and the Bent Jædig Prize in 2013. Her recordings West of the Moon and A Prima Vez have been nominated for the Danish Music Awards.
Pianist Stefan Gustafson has worked with i.a. the Johnny Olsson Big Band, Rolf Ericson, Alice Babs, Nisse Sandström and was a permanent member of the Bernt Rosengren Quartet for 20 years.
Contrabassist Patrik Boman has had a prolific career highlighted by joint projects with i.a. the pianists Lars Sjösten (receiving the 1989 OJ:s Gyllene Skiva), the pianist Peter Nordahl (resulting in 31 albums 2 of which garnered Grammisawards). He has i.a. toured with the legendary saxofonist Benny Golson.
Drummer Bengt Stark has played with just about all the great musicians on the Swedish jazz scene throughout the years, like Kenny Drew, Horace Parlan, Ken Peplowski, Clark Terry. Bengt is a lecturer in drums/jazz at the Royal Music Collage in Stockholm, where he was recently awarded a professorship.
