Yttling Jazz
Indie pop architect brings his vision to modern jazz. Cinematic with a northern sensibility.
He’s best known as Björn from Peter, Bjorn & John – the producer behind Lykke Li’s breakthrough and one of Sweden’s most influential songwriters in the alt-pop world. But fewer know that Björn Yttling is also a trained jazz musician, mentored by Esbjörn Svensson and with an early album released under the name Yttling Jazz.
Now he returns to jazz with new music, recorded together with some of Sweden’s most acclaimed improvisers. The result is instrumental, dynamic, and cinematic – drawing on the atmospheres of Brian Eno and Nino Rota, as well as the poetic edge of Mingus, Monk, and Jan Johansson’s Jazz på svenska.
Live, Yttling brings a dream team to the stage, including Goran Kajfeš, Jonas Kullhammar, and Dan Berglund. This is jazz that invites rather than demands – a vivid, searching soundscape moving between northern melancholy and cosmic warmth.
