Swedish Swing Society

The trio has its roots in the quartet formed by Ove Lind and Lars Erstrand in the 1960s, inspired by the model of Benny Goodman, Teddy Wilson, Gene Krupa, and later Lionel Hampton. Ulf Johansson Werre took over the piano from Bengt Hallberg, and later Björn Sjödin replaced Ronnie Gardiner on drums. After the passing of Ove Lind, Antti Sarpila joined the group, and now, following Lars Erstrand’s passing, the group continues in exactly the same chamber music-style setup that Goodman pioneered in 1935.

Ulf Johansson Werre doubles on piano and trombone at the highest international level, while master clarinetist Antti Sarpila takes the piano seat, adding even more variety in tone and style to the group. Björn Sjödin has been compared to Gene Krupa and handles the brushes with magical dynamics and joyful expression.
