Stockholm Improvisers Orchestra
Exciting big band inspired by, among others, the Jazz Composers Orchestra and the Globe Unity Orchestra with improvisation at the center.
Stockholm Improvisers Orchestra is an improvising orchestra, founded and led by the saxophonists and composers Johannes Gammelgaard and Pelle Westlin. With inspiration from historical groups such as the Jazz Composer’s Orchestra, the ICP Orchestra and the Globe Unity Orchestra, they create a both crackling and intricate expression where open compositions and graphic scores lay the foundation for collective improvisations.
Stockholm Improvisers Orchestra is a platform for new meetings, new musical expressions and a forum where there is room to experiment with the overall goal of finding a mutual listening and a common sensitivity for the improvised music. Listen, be overwhelmed and touched by a different and creative big band where the score is not the most important, but the exploratory interplay and exchange between the musicians, each contributing their individual voice to the final result.
“Stockholm Improvisers Orchestra is, after all, more than an orchestra – they remind you that everything is possible, that success is achieved through collaboration and sensitive conversation and that music Is the healing force of the universe (to quote Albert Ayler).” – Johan Jacobsson Franzén
