SKHLM Jazz Trio – Ulf Johansson Werre, Hans Backenroth, Oscar Johansson Werre

Jazz classics and original music with a focus on swing and melody!

In the fall of 2002, the legendary Swedish jazz saxophonist Hacke Björksten and bassist Hans Backenroth, one of Scandinavias foremost basists, began playing with the church choir twice a year. After a few years, the duo was expanded with pianist/trombonist Ulf Johansson Werre. For over 20 years, the trio has played two concerts a year in the church – as a trio or/and with the church choir. After Hacke passed away in the winter of 2020, drummer Oscar Johansson Werre joined and the trio was named SKHLM Trio. Both Ulf and Hans have been among the leading names in Swedish and Scandinavian jazz for many years and have been heard with artists such as Arne Domnérus, Monica Zetterlund, Povel Ramel, Scott Hamilton, Jesper Thilo, Toots Thielemans, Bernt Rosengren and many, many more. Despite his young age, Oscar has played with many of our leading figures and has been awarded several awards. The trio draws much of its material from jazz standards, which are expanded with original music and music by Chick Corea and others. This incredibly well-coordinated trio plays intricate and timeless jazz music with the rhythm and melody in focus!
