Simoni:Teolis
Alto saxophone and trumpet meet in a concert where improvisation och self-written piecces dance freely, inspired by video games, visual art and classic and contemporary composers.
Simoni:Teolis is a unique Italian duo formed by Lorenzo Simoni on the alto saxophone and Iacopo Teolis on trumpet. The two met at the Siena Jazz International Academy and since then their friendship has reflected on their musical attitude and playing.
During the concert they will play pieces by Lorenzo Simoni as well as purely improvised pieces. Many different influences can be heard in the music, ranging from videogame soundtracks to visual arts to composers like Bach, Hindemith, Steve Reich and Igor Stravinsky going to contemporary musicians such as Ambrose Akinmusire, Perselì and Ben Wendel.
Lorenzo Simoni is an Italian saxophonist and composer, he first approached to the saxophone at the age of 11. Jazz and classical saxophone player, he graduates in classical saxophone with the highest honors at Livorno Conservatory in Italy. Since he was little, he has performed as a soloist with orchestras and won numerous national and international competitions both for jazz and classical music. He has performed in numerous festivals and venues such as the Berklee Performance Center, Blue Note Milano, Bimhuis, Umbria Jazz and many more. He has done masterclasses around Italy and his often active as a leader and sideman in many different ensembles.
Iacopo Teolis is an Italian trumpet player and composer born in Rome in 1999. He grew up with mentors such as Carlo Conti, Pietro Lussu, Francesco Fratini and then got his degree at the Siena Jazz International Accademy where he studied with musicians like Seamus Blake, Ralph Alessi, Greg Hutchinson and Jeff Ballard. He also did the summer workshop organized by Siena Jazz where he won various scholarships including a residency at the San Leo Music Fest. He is very active as a sideman and also leader of a sextet that performs his original music.
