Sebastian Mattebo trio feat. Jonas Knutsson

A meeting between two saxophonists born in Umeå. Genre-defying jazz with elements of folk and world music.

Saxophonist Sebastian Mattebo is a fearless and versatile musician who constantly seeks new paths. He leads and composes for several of his own ensembles, most recently featured with the EP ”The Mire” on the Tengtones label. In addition to his own projects, he is a frequently hired sideman and has performed with bands such as the Stockholm Jazz Orchestra and the EBU’s Euroradio Jazz Orchestra. In 2025, he was named one of three finalists in the Royal Swedish Academy of Music’s competition ”Blåsmusikpriset Jazz.”

Jazz and folk musician Jonas Knutsson has an extensive list of accomplishments. Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, winner of a Swedish Grammy, and artistic director of the Umeå Jazz Festival, to name a few. With his never ending curiousity Knutsson is a truly unique musician who has taken the saxophone to someplace new.

This evening, these two saxophonists from Umeå meet for the first time in a genre-crossing concert with tones from both jazz and world music. Together with vibraphonist Jesper Söderqvist and double bassist Johan Tengholm – two of Stockholm’s sharpest young jazz musicians – they form an exciting new quartet for the evening.

Lineup:
Sebastian Mattebo – saxofon
Jonas Knutsson – saxofon
Jesper Söderqvist – vibrafon
Johan Tengholm – kontrabas
