Ronnie Gardiner & Karl Olandersson möter Lilla Akademien

Renowned American drummer and legend Ronnie Gardiner together with the famous jazz trumpet player Karl Olandersson are coming to Lilla Akademien Music School (Gymnasium) for an exhilarating musical meeting.

Lilla Akademien proudly presents the renowned American/Swedish drummer Ronnie Gardiner, a living jazzlegend and inspiring ambassador of rhythm and drums! Gardiner is know for his work with Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Carter, Gerry Mulligan och Dexter Gordon.
Born in Westerly, Rhode Island, USA in 1932, Ronnie Gardiner has lived in Sweden since 1963, where his career took off as the drummer in Charlie Norman’s trio and in his own “Ronnie Gardiner Quartet.” He hosted “Ronnie’s Room” at Nalen and started his own scholarship fund, the “Ronnie Gardiner Drummers Award,” as well as his own rhythm method, RGM (Ronnie Gardiner Method). Despite his advanced age, Ronnie is “still going strong” and loved by all for his personality and his unwavering dedication to playing and spreading the power of music to humanity!

Karl Olandersson, one of the most appreciated and in-demand trumpet players on the Swedish jazz scene, will grace this concert with his vibrant tones and arrangements. Karl was born in Hedemora and lives in Stockholm. In addition to leading his own band, the “Karl Olandersson Quartet,” he is a key member of the Ronnie Gardiner Quartet, Stockholm Swing All Stars, Nine Sparks Riots, Ekdahl/Bagge’s Big Band, and more. Karl’s playing style is melodic, rhythmically sharp, and marked by a natural sense of form and tone within both jazz tradition and more modern expressions.

This evening will also feature Lilla Akademien’s own Mathias Algotsson (piano), Anders Jonsson (bass), and Jesper Kviberg (drums), as well as all the fantastic students from Lilla Akademien’s Upper Secondary School of Music and Pre-College program.
Join us for an unforgettable concert where we experience the transcendent power of music and swing along to vibrant rhythms! With arrangements of jazz standards and newly composed music performed in duos, Latin ensemble, Big Band and smaller groups. The event invites everyone to celebrate the liberating power of jazz music!

The event takes place at Lilla Akademien, one of Sweden’s foremost music institutions, in the new Queen Silvia Concert Hall.
