Johan Grim Band

Johan Grim is a versatile guitarist who, following his studies at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, has become a well-established figure on the Stockholm music scene. For over 25 years, he has collaborated with bassist Rickard Malmsten in various projects and settings. The current quartet also features Jens Nilsson on saxophone and Tuomas Ojala on drums.

The music performed at the Stockholm Jazz Festival will primarily consist of original compositions from the band’s latest album Pacific, as well as selected tracks from their 2021

release Dedications. The songs are characterized by clear, singable melodies and draw inspiration from from rock, blues, and funk. Early jazz influences include Kurt Rosenwinkel, Joe Lovano, and John Scofield. The band embraces improvisation and real-time musical exploration, ensuring that each performance offers a fresh and expressive interpretation of their music.
