Joel Lyssarides Trio feat. Sasha Berliner
An evening where luminous piano meets the cutting edge of contemporary jazz.
Together with his trio, Joel Lyssarides has carved out an instantly recognizable sound, where influences from pianists like Jan Johansson, Esbjörn Svensson’s e.s.t., and Keith Jarrett in no way overshadow the trio’s own ethos. There’s a rare, tangible radiance and an almost astonishing clarity in Lyssarides’ playing.
For the concert at Maxim, the trio is joined by American vibraphonist and composer Sasha Berliner. Berliner is in the midst of a meteoric rise and is one of the hottest names on the contemporary American jazz scene. At just 22 years old, she was featured in DownBeat’s Critics Poll as a “rising star” in 2020 and has appeared in the publication’s Readers Poll no less than four times. Her latest album Fantôme was released just a few months ago and solidifies Berliner’s position as one of the most compelling composers and musicians of our time.
