The band is founded by Mzwakhe Hlatshwayo, a pianist and multi-instrumentalist from Johannesburg, South Africa. He studied African classical music and jazz piano at the University of Cape Town. Since then he has played with many world-renowned South African artists. Mzwakhe now lives in Sweden and for the past 20 years has invested in his career as an international jazz artist and music teacher.

Co-founder is Jens Nilsson, a jazz saxophonist from Öland, Sweden. He now works in Stockholm with big bands and bands with influences from Africa and Latin America.

The group’s dynamic rhythms are held together by Rolf Fredriksson, a drummer with roots in blues, jazz and African music. He studied at the Academy of Music in Stockholm and has since played both in Sweden and internationally.

The group was later expanded with the versatile and award-winning bassist Rickard Malmsten, who brightens the music with his personal and melodic bass playing.
