From Time to Time (musik av Paul Motian)

Drummer, composer and bandleader Paul Motian (1931-2011) was a style-former and his music has almost given rise to a school of thought in modern jazz. He wrote a large number of songs for his various groups and most of them were intended to be performed without any fixed pulse. The result was a rhythmically liberated but at the same time strongly melodic music that gives the ensemble great space to shape the music together. This evening, some of Motian’s songs will be played by four musicians who have clearly embraced this aesthetic. In the long term, they have the ambition to perform Motian’s entire repertoire together.
