In the concert Frankly! A Tribute to Sinatra Bohuslän Big Band pays tribute to one of the greatest artists of all time – Francis Albert ”Frank” Sinatra. The vocals are performed by Niklas Gabrielsson Lind, whose voice is so similar to Frank’s that even the most dedicated Sinatra fan sometimes gets it wrong. The music is performed in true Sinatra style and with original arrangements by greats such as Nelson Riddle, Quincy Jones, Billy May and Neal Hefti. Beautiful, swinging and timeless!
Frank Sinatra – a musical icon
With his characteristic baritone voice and his elegant appearance, Sinatra became a teenage idol during the war years. The career grew in the following decades and as a recording artist he had his greatest success in the fifties with many unforgettable hits: I’ve got the world on a string and I get a kick out of you. During the 60s, he founded his own record company and in connection with that reached his absolute peak with the song Strangers in the night, which became a world hit and today is considered one of the strongest recordings ever made.
Sinatra also had a successful parallel career as an actor which, among other things, resulted in him being awarded an Oscar statuette for Best Actor in The Man with the Golden Arm. He is considered one of the greatest icons of the entire twentieth century.
Bohuslän Big Band
Bohuslän Big Band is the band that both protects and challenges the big band genre. Over the years they have played with international giants such as Gregory Porter, Maria Schneider and Nils Landgren and popular artists such as Jill Johnson, Samuel Ljungblahd and Tommy Körberg. They have also been called ”A World Class Jazz Orchestra” by Quincy Jones himself. This is not the first time that the Bohuslän Big Band has taken on Sinatra’s well-known tones. In connection with Sinatra’s 100th birthday, he was honored with a record by Bohuslän Big Band, vocalist Erik Gullbransson and Wermlands Opera’s strings. The record was a continuation of the production Frankly, which you now have the chance to experience again – this time with Niklas Gabrielsson Lind at the microphone.
Niklas Gabrielsson Lind
The singer, musician and composer Niklas Gabrielsson Lind moves freely between most genres. He has his greatest passion in the American jazz singing tradition and with Frank Sinatra as the most obvious inspiration. Niklas has been seen and heard singing and playing his own songs in the TV hit Vår tid är nu and participated in På Spåret. He has been a guest, among others, with the Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Ekdahl Bagge Big Band. He also has over 20 million views on Youtube with the jazz project Platina Jazz.
