Amanda Sedgwick
Amanda Sedgwick has been active as a band leader, composer, soloist and side lady in Sweden and the US for over twenty years.
Down through the years Amanda has played with, among many others, Rolf Ericson, Freddie Redd, Walter Booker, Barry Harris, Philip Harper, Pasquale Grasso, Hotep Galeta, Jeremy Pelt, Johnny O ́Neal, Sacha Perry, Georgie Fame, Willie Jones, Jimmy Wormworth, Leroy Williams, Michael Weiss, Rita Marcotulli and Deborah Brown.
Amanda currently resides in Stockholm but regularly visits New York to perform with Pasquale Grasso, Tardo Hammer, Ari Roland, Michael Weiss and many others, particularly performing her music at Smalls Jazz Club. Her most recent appearance there was a live recording with trumpet player Dwayne Clemons which is due to be released in the fall.
She is also the leader of the Amanda Sedgwick Quintet and can be heard with numerous Swedish ensembles such as the Swedish Radio Jazz Group, Norrbotten Big Band and Stockholm’s Concert Hall’s big band, The Blue House Jazz Orchestra. She has received several grants from the Swedish Arts Council, STIM (Swedish Copyright Organization) and the City of Stockholm. She is also the co-leader of the project “Charlie Parker with strings” together with alto saxophonist Jonas Knutsson as well as co-leading the sextet Bird’s Nest.
Alongside being a performer, Amanda is also starting out as a composer in the field of modern classical music. Her works include music for guitar quartet, a piece which was performed in New York by Composer’s Concordance, and music for church organ and saxophone, a short suite that was performed by her and organist Johannes Landgren at the Gothenburg International Organ Festival in 2023.
